Eco Polices of Pension Tamaris
In year 1935 when our grandfather Ljubo Huljić had first tourist in the history of Loviste there was no road to Loviste and they came with a sailing boat, beds where made of straw, of course there was no electricity and no water supply system, that was the start. Later on in 1968 our father Andrija Huljić continued a family tradition and opened a first privately owned Pension in Dubrovnik region, that was almost crazy idea because still there was no road and water supply, we had only electricity and very important to mention that climate for privately owned business in Communism time was not good. Water was the main problem, toilets where filled with sea water, tourists had special education about using bathroom, everybody had to save water. In that hard times sustainability was a must, and without carefully measuring and everyday planing, survival of the community and environment wouldn't be possible.
Now it is much easier and Pansion Tamaris is implementing sustainable practices such as energy and water conservation, solid waste recycling and reduction, pollution prevention and these practices are not so much different than our grandfather and fathers.
Our philosophy contains sustainable daily measures that are very easy to adapt in everyday life, simply to be responsible to everything; yourself, family, community and environment. We are buying local products as much is possible, which supports and helps our community, and cuts down transport and the pollution, vegetables and fruits from our own organic Farm are used for preparation of food in Pension. Rain water is collected in large cistern on our Farm. Drip irrigation system is used on our farm and flower gardens which saves water and fertilizers.
Breakfast in Pension Tamaris is organic and when we have to, we buy and use other organic products whenever it is possible, as well as encourage local producers to make organic food and drinks.
For cleaning we use Biowashbowl, large packages of cleaning products, and Eco cleaning solutions whenever possible. The leftovers from our restaurant and organic matter from our farm is composted and more than 80% of our bulbs are saving bulbs; we recycle paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and batteries.
Eco policies in our rooms and apartments educate guests to conserve water and electricity and turn off air-conditioners when leaving the room. All rooms have showers and half flush toilets and bed linen is changed weekly or on request.
We our a family Pension but we also employ local people from the village, minimum 1 employee per season.
We are giving information to our guests about our country and local history and culture, local points of interest, natural heritage, public transport, bike trails, walk trails, sustainable local companies and products.
